Tools are usually programs that enable you to change a various amount of items in Super Mario World. Lunar Magic is the essential tool to hack Super Mario World, but many other tools are available. Things like music, blocks, and sprites may be added with tools apart from Lunar Magic.

Other tools that are commonly used by hackers are:
Addmusic - Carol's, Romi's HuFlungDu's or AddmusicM - Inserts custom music
BlockTool (Super Deluxe) - Inserts custom blocks
Sprite Tool - Romi's or Mikeyk's - Inserts new sprites
YY-CHR - Modifies Super Mario World's graphics
