Super Mario Bros. - The Wicked Star Story (SMB:TWSS) is a fan-made game in the Mario series that is being worked on by andy_k_250. SMB:TWSS is using the Super Mario World engine as its base and features an original story with all-new levels and enemies. At the same time, SMB:TWSS pays homage to classics like Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario Bros. 3 as well as newer entries in the Mario series.
Story
The Mario Bros. wake up one morning and receive a letter from Princess Peach. Yo'ster Island is under attack by an army of Shy Guys. At the same time, Goombas and Koopa Troopas are roaming Toad Road in the Mushroom Kingdom. Once again, Peach calls on the Mario Bros. to save the day. Meanwhile, something is wrong with the night sky - it just doesn't look right anymore. Could these strange incidents all be connected somehow? Only time will tell...

Trivia
- The main inspirations for this game are the classic Super Mario Bros. games for the NES and Super Mario World for the SNES. Elements of newer games have also been included as appropriate.
- The author's intent for this game is for it to resemble a real 16-bit Nintendo game from the 1990s as closely as possible when finished.
- The oldest version of this ROM dates back to September 11, 2007. It has undergone two major revisions since then in which the game was more or less restarted from scratch. The current version includes remixed elements of both earlier versions with updated graphics and gameplay.
- The graphical style for this game consists of mostly bright happy graphics in keeping with the spirit of the original series. Most sprites and foreground objects have a cartoony black outline.
- All of the Koopalings will make an appearance in this game.
- The ghostly boss Boo Diddley is an homage to the original name given to Boos in the in the American instruction manual for Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES). The name itself is a punny reference to 50s rocker and bluesman Bo Diddley.
